On 25 January 2023, Prof Ir Dr Fatimah Ibrahim ,head of CIME has been invited as a plenary speaker at the TMU-UM Joint Symposium 2023 : Emergent Research and Social Implementation: Increasing Research Impact Through Partnerships. In this symposium, Prof Ir Dr Fatimah Ibrahim has presented Impacting Research to Commercialization.

This presentation session was attended by participants from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia and also Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan.

Center for Innovation in Medical Engineering (CIME) has been successfully organized Kick-Off Innovation to Commercialization – Let’s Start! workshop on 10 Dec 2022, at Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya. In this workshop, we are honored to have three great presenters:

2. Mr Safuan Zairi, Chief Ecosystem Development Officer. Chief Business Officer, MRANTI

Participants in this workshop were from academics, research, and students both locally and abroad. We anticipate that all workshop attendees will be able to put the knowledge exchanged today into practice and begin the transition into the commercialization stage.

SYNOPSIS :

Session 1 : Fusion Commercialization: Licensing and Business Development Considerations for Combined Medical Device and IT Assets by Dr Lori Pressman

The speaker will discuss the interplay between medical innovations and the data needed to attract investment, obtain regulatory approval, and while the innovation is being used. She also will talk about the business framework for valuing intellectual assets. She will disclose the contractual approaches in view of the uncertain outcomes, which boils down to “think of every way value could be generated and assure return of investments to the technology owner”. At the end of the session, the importance of innovation and technology transfer will be discussed.

Session 2: Kick Off Innovation to Commercialization by Prof Ir Dr Fatimah Ibrahim

The speaker will introduce the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) in the research and development stages. Next, fundamentals of research commercialization, and understanding of the various pathways to the marketplace will be shared by the speaker. The potential funding opportunities for pre-commercialization in Malaysia will be exposed in this talk. In the second hour, the participants will be given a hands-on practical session on solving and accelerating the participants’ prototype creation toward commercialization.

our invention ‘ Smart Wearable Device for Monitoring Low Back Pain Rehabilitation’,
has won 2nd Place (Cluster Engineering) at the 3rd Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo 2022,
held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, 6-9 Oct 2022.

Inventors Team : Prof Ir Dr Fatimah Ibrahim (PI), Prof Dr Jongman Cho, Assoc Prof Dr Anwar Suhaimi, Dr Aung Thiha, Mr Karunan Joseph, Ms Syarifah Aisyah Syed Ibrahim and Dr Nurul Fauzani Jamaluddin.

The invention has been licensed by Nonivasi Care Sdn Bhd. The company and team of inventors collaborated and managed to secure a RM 500,000 CIP Ignite grant from Cradle Sdn Bhd.

Center for Innovation in Medical Engineering congratulates the inventors of MyEMG ‘Wireless EMG Device for Low Back Pain Rehabilitation’ (PI 2020003417) led by Prof Ir Dr Fatimah Ibrahim for the licensing agreement of the IP with Nonivasi Care Sdn Bhd. Prof Ir Dr Fatimah Ibrahim has collaborated with Nonivasi Care Sdn Bhd and successfully secured a grant of RM 500,000 awarded by CIP Ignite by Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd.

UM-Nonivasi Licensing Exchange & Cradle Grant Award Ceremony was held on 9th June 2022 at the Auditorium, Level 1, KPPI, Universiti Malaya. Prof Ir Dr Shaliza Ibrahim, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) represented Universiti Malaya, and Nonivasi Care Sdn was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, Ms Amanda Soong during the UM-Nonivasi Licencing Exchange Ceremony.

In the ceremony, Ms Juliana Jan, Senior Vice President, Grant, Cradle Grant Sdn Bhd presented the Cradle Grant Award to Nonivasi Care Sdn Bhd.

The event was also gracing by the presence of representative from MyIPO.
